The Bethel Park Community Center continues to be the center of activity in the community. Frequently reserved for social and professional functions, the facility is becoming well known throughout the South Hills. The Community Center, with 40,495 sq. ft. of space, includes areas for special events and meetings, a full-service gymnasium, an exercise studio, walking track and a separate classroom. A large multi-purpose room has seating to accommodate 300 and is capable of being divided into three separate rooms. The Community Center also includes separate youth and adult lounges, game room, catering-style kitchen, stage, and an outside concession area on the lower level to serve the athletic field. Walking trails, playground equipment, and a lighted soccer/multi-purpose field are situated on the center’s grounds.

Its location is generally identified with the modern Palestinian village of Beitin in the West Bank; the biblical name has been applied to the adjacent Israeli settlement of Beit El. A second biblical Bethel, in the southern Judah, is mentioned in Joshua (8:17 and 12:16), and seems to be the same as Bethul or Bethuel, a city of the tribe of Simeon.

    Bethel was an important cult-centre for the northern Kingdom of Israel following the break-up of the united kingdom of David and Solomon. The Second Book of Kings describes how Jeroboam, first king of Israel, set up centres for his Golden Calf cult at Bethel on the southern boundary of his kingdom and Dan on the northern boundary, and appointed non-Levites as his priests. Jeroboam’s decision to pass over the Mushite priests of Shiloh, the original cult-centre for Israel, deeply offended the Shiloh priesthood and seems to lie behind much of the animosity directed at Jeroboam and the golden calf, which probably emanated from the Mushite priestly clan.

    Bethel escaped destruction during the Assyrian conquest of Israel (721 BC), but was occupied by king Josiah of Judah (c.640-609 BC), who, according to the book of Kings, destroyed the ancient Israelite cult centre.[4] The site of this centre has not been located by modern archaeologists.

    The high school in Bethel Park has around 2 thousand students in grades 9–12. It’s one of the biggest high schools in Pennsylvania and consists of 8 buildings on a 80-acre campus. Its curriculum includes ten Advanced Placement Program courses, 14 honors courses and four foreign language programs. The current principal is Dr. Zeb Jansante. Its mascot is the Black Hawk.

    The BPHS is similar to a college as it’s originally intended to be part of the Community College of Allegheny County. It was built in 1959 and was extensively renovated in 1996. The high school is made up of 8 buildings, with each building being specifically for a set of subjects.

    The BPHS is located in the Bethel Park School District, which is home of a school district in the state of Pennsylvania. Bethel Park is a suburb of Pittsburgh. Bethel Park School District comprises a total of eight schools. It has 5 elementary schools: Benjamin Franklin Elementary School, Abraham Lincoln Elementary School, George Washington Elementary School, William Penn Elementary School, and Memorial Elementary School. All 5 Elementary Schools host grades K-4, and children are assigned to different elementary schools based on where they live in the community. For example, if one lives in the south of Bethel Park, then the child will go to Benjamin Franklin; if one lives in the North of Bethel Park, then the child will go to Abraham Lincoln.

    There are also 2 middle schools in the district: Neil Armstrong Middle School for grades 5-6, and Independence Middle School for grade 7-8. The high school, Bethel Park High School, is home to grades 9-12. After 4th grade, all children in Bethel Park go to the same School as the other children in their grade, regardless of where one lives in the community.

    Additionally there are three Roman Catholic elementary schools for which the school district provides transportation: St. Germaine, St. Thomas More and St. Valentine.

    According to the United States Census Bureau, the borough has a total area of 11.7 square miles (30 km²), all of it land. Its average elevation is 1,197 feet (365 m) above sea level. Bethel Park lies at the margin between the Pittsburgh Low Plateau and Waynesburg Hills Sections of the Allegheny Plateau physiographic province. The area is characterized as a maturely dissected region where the ephemeral minor tributaries converge into the tributaries of principal streams.

    The highest point in Bethel Park is Rocky Ridge in the southwestern portion of the municipality, 1,370 feet (420 m), and the lowest point is at the intersection of the Piney Fork and Alsip Run creeks, 980 feet (300 m), in the southeast corner of the municipality.
